We are looking for a speciality focused barista; someone who is inspired to be more integrally involved in the development and growth of a small coffee shop and roastery called Perfecto Coffee (Psst!: I know its a bad name but we can change it together in time!).
We need someone who is:
Competent with and motivated to get stuck into digital marketing, as whilst I find it interesting and I take looooads of pictures I can never find time to post!!
Someone who also knows a bit about home brewing methods i.e. Pour overs, Chemex, Aeropress recipes, kettles, the importance of a good grinder e.t.c
Knowledge and/or interest in espresso machine design and technicalities so that when asked about such products you can provide a basic overview at the very least.
A barista that is excited about new coffees; working with flavour profiles, developing their palette – getting involved in cuppings, dialling in new roasts and getting the best out of our espresso offering.
Capable of being left to their own devices and not just to sit scrolling all day. This is an opportunity to have a-lot of initiative and agency to help make the business in part your own thing, we will listen to your ideas and enable you to follow them through, but its up you to make it happen!
So a bit about us:
We roast our own in-house speciality coffee on old Toper Cafemino 1kg which we source from Mercanta and Falcon and we are starting to sell faster than I can roast it so we will be able to buy more and more exciting coffees and collaborate with other local roasters in the months to come! I will need help with the roasting, which is such a fun thing to learn and a way useful skill if you are looking at a long term career in coffee.
Also, as the cafe was initially opened as a showroom, so to speak of, of Izzo espresso machines. A range built with older designs such as where used by Faema and Gaggia in the 1950/60s; a golden age of the espresso machine design. But we have an amazing location on Gloucester Road and hub of indie businesses and creative happenings; plus we are at the posh end (the local demographic has quite a bit of expendable income) so we can make a great thing out of a speciality coffee shop that roasts in-house.
Whilst people even in bougie Bishopston don’t walk into shop with 5 K in the back pocket to get a commercial grade espresso machine, so we are working hard to change the vibe and atheistic of the place to encourage customers to spend more time with us and to tick the boxes that will help the local demographic be sure that we do what they want from their coffee shop.
Our link with Izzo as a UK distributor means that with have a-lot of their coffee. These are classic Italian espresso blends; Silver 50/50 Robusta/Arabica, a Decafe (you don’t even wanna know..) and Arabica Gold 100% Arabica. These are good Italian espresso blends, very consistent and tick all the old school elements of of rich syrupy mouthfeel, heavy oils, caramel and butter dark chocolate tasting notes. About 40% of our customers love it…this number is getting smaller as we convert them!
The link also means we need someone that is interested at the very least to learn about the machines, basic details so that if and when customers come in to ask about the Izzo machines aren’t found to be palmed off with a email or phone number.
