Are you an experienced coffee professional and fancy switching up your lifestyle? You can go for a morning surf or bike ride, head into work roasting some great specialty coffees and be sat on the beach in time to watch the sun go down with your friends or family… Say hello to our beautiful Island and to Island Roasted.
Who we are
We are an award-winning family business roasting specialty coffee here on the Isle of Wight and we’re looking for a Production Roaster to join our team. We have been roasting on the Island for over a decade and have led the way in bringing specialty coffee to our local market. In normal times we roast 40+ tons a year and have been growing strongly over the last 5 years.
We have a suite of roasters from our Diedrich IR5 profiling roaster to our original IR12 production roaster & vintage Vittoria 20kg, and soon to be joined by a 120kg Petroncini – so the roasting will be varied and across a range of different roasters.
Who we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone who has sound hands-on roasting experience of at least 2 years, with good IT skills and knowledge of data-logging software (eg Cropster, artisan). You will need to be organized and flexible in order to adapt to, and manage the roasting demands – setting roast schedules for the day and managing green coffee stocks, etc. You will need to be able to work well in a small team to drive the Production Assistants working with you as well as be self-motivated and forward thinking.
For someone with the right characteristics and attitude, there is space to develop in the role as we continue to grow, with additional management opportunities – and all on an Island with amazing beaches, a vibrant local produce food scene along with a lively music and artisan culture.
The Production Roaster will primarily report to the Master Roaster and will facilitate the main day-to-day roasting, tracking the order system to set the roast schedule for the day and oversee the Production Assistants in ensuring Quality Standards are met throughout the production process. This is a full-time role, circa 40hrs per week Monday-Friday.
What we can offer…
Alongside the opportunity to live and work in such an incredible place, with nature, beaches and outdoor life all around (yet still only around 3 hours travel time from London!), you can still work within a truly passionate specialty coffee business that continues to lead the way in the local coffee scene. But aside from providing the perfect balance of life and coffee, you will also get:
· Mon-Fri working week
· Up to 28 days Holiday per annum
· Company Pension Option
· Competitive salary based on experience
· 20% discount on Coffee, Tea & equipment
· 10% discount on food at Caffe Isola (our very own award-winning café & retail space)
· SCA courses available
· Training & Development support
· Potential to grow within the role and business
